Hey guys,
Been playing lead guitar quite awhile. Been fortunate enough to have played in some killer bands. My problem to this day is I totally suck when it comes to singing. I've tried and everyone tells me to just give up, I was not meant to sing. Anyone else experiencing this same dilemma? Some people tell me that anyone can be taught to sing. Could use some valuable input if anyone has anything to share with me. It would be much appreciated!

Im personally am not a good singer. But I have seen a few people that have started off as bad singers become pretty good. I recommend finding a good voice teacher to help you out. This is what these people I knew did. You also got to believe that you can become a good singer! If you dont think you have what it takes to become a good singer you probably wont. Keep at it and you will see improvements!

Hey there!

I wouldn't say I can't sing a link, but I have a similar problem of singing off and I think it's about time to go to a voice specialist to seek help. Since I am a guitar teacher, I am thinking maybe we can just exchange services or something so that I can bone up on my vocal chops so to speak.

Another tip if you're really good at guitar is kind of similar to when you learned to bend strings - when you play guitar, try to hum or sing those exact notes as best you can. So you take your guitar licks, and then you sing them - then you can sing a lick. Start simple, with licks that involve quarter notes only, and / or quarter and/or eighth notes.

Also, if you are serious about singing and recording it, hot tea with honey (for example Raspberry Royale can be pretty delicious with honey and make your voice more mellifluous as well as warm your vocal muscles / chords). Too much caffeine is a no-no though.

Hope that helps.

Hey Jon,
Had 1st lesson last week and was told immediately that I have an excellent voice but needed work to be a good singer. Next lesson this weekend.I am video taping lessons. I will probably post before and after vids. Will this forum allow that? Really appreciate your input so far, as well as your input to a lot of people on this site. Do you teach guitar?
