At the bottom of a sheet of tab below the tablature were + and . that matched the beats were they down and up pick strokes or something else? Thanks http://www.guitaretab.com/b/beatles/1071.html

Looks like the + is each downbeat, the . is each upbeat:

1 and 2 and 3 and
+ . + . + .
