I would like to play with a bottleneck.
They have many diffrent materials like glass and Brass.
But what's the best material to begin with?
I don't care about the price.

Don't try to free me, cause I've been here before and I deserve a little more..

I don't think there is a "best" material. Go to a store and try different types of slides and see what you like. Just be sure that it fits your finger (they come in different sizes). A lot of slide players have a few different kinds around - glass, brass, steel, ceramic, etc.

I have had a glass bottleneck for years, and I couldn't play a lick with it.
Then I bought a dobro because I fell in love with its sound, and I thought that I should play some slide licks on it... But I tried with a metal one, and this time, it worked from day one. I've heard stories but in the other order...

So try different types, they are as important as strings gauges and picks. Pick up a few licks and tunings on this site too... Then work from there.

I personally use a Dunlop Brass slide for acoustic, was using a copper pipe I pinched off my brothers truck (he's a plumber) and the difference in sound is amazing.

Here's what I think, glass for electric, steel for acousstic and tune down to say DGDGBD and muck around in the Open, 3rd, 5th and 12th fret positions.

I play with little tube (from hemical experiments :))
It cannot fit my finger so I hold it in my hand, like Ritchie Blackmore.
That way you can slide separate strings easier.

i have a glass slide and cant use it very well. it always sound out of tune. however i cover my sound with loads of delay and reverb and use it to create wierd sounds and textures. i do thing like clanger impresions and squeeks and whistles. i use this as intros of my songs and genraly just 2 give a wierd feel. i like the sounds at the start of radiohead's "lucky" and "climing up the walls" (both OKC) and use these as insperation, eventhough niether use a slide, they are done by stricking the strings behind the nut

I've got a glass slide... I only really use for the thin strings, cos the bass strings just kinda fart... I play some captain beefheart stuff, which is good fun... I do use it with delay, to get some very cool sounds (especially, if you put distrotion on, and play the D,G,B strings, and slide from the 3rd frett to the 5th)...
I also use it on my other hand (my picking hand)... I use pull offs on my fretting hand, and slide the bottle neck up and down between the middle and bridge pickups.. it's creats quite a cool sound... like Chipmunks immatating gun fire... i'll have to upload this little trick at some point...

try with pressing the string with the bottleneck exactly on the fret (not fret field, just fret bar), this should give you exact note.

i DO do that, but it still sounds nasty. it happens as i slide and i no what it is that is doing it; i am not damping the other strings. i'm not to bothered though, it does the job fine for what i use it for
