what??? HE died? when was this? (sorry about my ignorance)...how?.. hmmm, he was one of my favourite guitarists, and SINGERS... great voice.. I saw him live on MTV2, and thier improvised track was stunning... but why was the band called jeff buckely? (sorry I'm stupid)... i did notice the other guys he plays with are regulars.. or was it a case of "couldn't think of anything" or "easier to register the name" syndrome...
That's a real pity...

Yeah he died a few years ago, he was floating on a river(singing Whole Lotta Love apparently) and he got sucked under a tugboat and died as a combination of being beaten by the engine and eventually drowning. Sad I know. His dad, Tim Buckley died young too, in a car crash I think.

I dunno why the band is called Jeff Buckley but he did most of the songwriting, production etc. plus he was the singer and guitarist.

Jeff Buckley is huge here in Australia, so much so that the record company are always putting out unreleased stuff that isn't even put out in the states. At my college we get a lot of American exchange students, and they all say things like "You mean he's American? I never even heard of him until I got to Australia" kind of stuff. It's a bit like Ben Folds, who now lives in Australia partly because he's always had such good audiences here. It's weird how that works, though I guess with a population as big as the US, there are so many live acts competing all the time. Over here we're lucky to have one big name band in the country at any one time.

I remember that there was a band that was being compared to Jeff Buckley that came out in 2001. Their name was OURS. I bought the CD and listened to it. It was ok but I sold it about 3 months after buying it.

Yeah, theres an English band thats pretty succesful recently that are hugely influenced by Jeff Buckley called Starsailor. Theyre pretty good, I got their album. Alot of people don't like them though.

When i want inspiration... i look no further than dave and tims live at the warehouse. no drums, or bass... nothing but two martin d-45's, daves percussive chords and tim reynolds supa fast flamenco style licks. every song is pure perfection.
