I started on an ibanez Gio and still play it today its a good guitar for the price. I think the grx20 is slightly better but not sure. Just as important you'll need a good amp. I like the line 6 stuff my self. Ibanez and line 6 is a good set up for heavier stuff. Other types of music will sound decent as well.
