So my 8 year old asked me for this band hero jobbie for the xbox 360. I went to a website and looked at it, the thing is $130!! I could buy him a nice starter guitar for that price and he would actually be learning real music! My wife says that I should just buy the game but I am having trouble wrapping my head around it, pay $130 to PRETEND you know how to play an instrument??
God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

Ya it's a pretty popular game that's been around for a while (Well, guitar hero and rockband have). I never liked it personally. Not the same thing as playing guitar, so if the kid isn't into playing guitar, you could waste money buying him an actual guitar if he just wants to play a game.

I think the kid likes to play a game not to learn how to play the guitar.

What has your 8 yr old have to say about your thoughts.. You might try criag list for both... Have he shown interest in your guitars..?
IMO, the only relation to a real guitar would be the timing. Also you have to pay out bucks for up grades and live with the selection they have available..
Hope this is of some help..
Good luck and Keep on pickin'
