Hi, I'm Jak, from Southern California.

I played guitar a long long time ago when I was about 12-13, then had to sell it when I got in trouble (haha!) and after that I switched to keyboards, computers, and singing.

I've been doing electronic music for over 20 years and although I kept thinking "hey I should get another guitar" it's taken me this long to actually go and do it. I bought a Martin acoustic guitar last week and I'm TOTALLY digging it. A bunch of songs I've written over the years have been made for guitar but the bands always played those parts. Now I can finally learn to play for myself, which is awesome.

I found this site earlier tonight and checked out some of the free lessons and already I've learned a few things about finger picking, blues progressions, etc. I was about to buy a book I found online that got great reviews but I think I'll sign up for this site before I do that. From what I can tell so far it's right up my alley as far as how I like to learn. My fingers hurt but I'm ready for more, heh.

Anyway I saw the "Introduce Yourself" section so I figured I'd say hello. :)

Thanks sixpicker. I'm into all kinds of music, whatever sounds good really.

Rock, blues, and country are what I guess you could say my primary focus with guitar is right now. That's mainly the style of songs I'm writing lately as far as lyrics style and progression. I also listened to some slack guitar stuff the other night by Led Kaapana and was blown away by how beautiful it sounded, so at some point I'd like to play around with that type of sound too.

Anyway it's good to be here. I've got parents in law coming in tomorrow for a week so I'll be mostly tied up but after that I'll jump in with a regular membership. In the mean time I'm just practicing some of the things I picked up from the free lessons.

Thanks again for the welcome. :)

Hey Jak,

I live in So Cal for about 15 years and had a lot of fun playing down there. There's plenty to learn here, welcome to GT and have fun!

Awesome, thanks Neal. I love it here in So Cal. I've been here for 5 years in Palm Springs and I'll be moving into LA proper early this coming year. I've had a hard time finding people to jam with over here in the desert (for the styles I like) so I'm looking forward to the larger music pool over there.

I signed up for the full access membership since my last post and I'm now well on my way to finally learning guitar. Good times.

Say hello to L.A. for me....I lived there for over 30 years (through the riots and big quakes too! :) ) but finally got out, and have lived in Denver for the last 16+ I love it here, but occasionally DO miss the ocean :)
