Great stuff guys,
I really enjoyed listening.
What about modulating to a different key at some point in the first jam? I enjoyed listening but at some point my ear was seeking a change of key to take the same progression somewhere else for about 15 to 30 seconds, then return to the original key. I've learned recently that many songwriters will take the same progression up a half-step or move to the V of the key then use a dominant seventh chord to modulate into a close key.
In the second to last jam session, I noticed that the jam went to various places and at one point I heard a carefully thought out melody from the lead guitarist. I liked this melody and my ear really wanted to hear it repeated at some point. What about using a repeatable melody that the jam builds to, gradually moves away from and every now and then returns to. This gives some rest to the inherent tension that underlies jam sessions. Just my thoughts. I'm a sucker for repeatable melodies, riffs and other hooks interspersed in music that I then associate with a particular musician or artist. The repeatable melody serves as a type of breather for the listener and in my opinion, just my opinion, allows both listener and artist to relate better.
