Strap for Acoustic Guitar

Just a beginner, I'm not sure how to best attach the strap on my acoustic guitar. The instructor advises against installing near the nut and I'm not comfortable with it there either. If there are other options I'd sure like to hear about them. Any advice would be welcome.

You could/should get a strap button installed at the heel. It's easy to do, but make sure to drill a pilot hole so you don't crack anything. If you aren't all that handy, then taking it to a luthier (guitar tech) would be the best option.

Thanks, Razbo. Although I'm somewhat handy, I think I'll entrust this job to a luthier. I appreciate your input.
