Hi everyone, just joined this site! :)

I'm a 16 year old (soon to become) guitarist from Norway. I started playing the acoustic guitar when I where 13, and picked up the electric guitar about two years ago (and have been playing it non-stop since). I'm into most genres of music (but preferably not the heaviest of the heavy though). Because I basically think a lot of todays "radio-pop-music" is no good ("lady gaga-like"), I use to turn to the music in the 60's-90's such as Dire Straits GnR, Rainbow, Dio, ACDC and well... the list is long!

I have been looking a lot at different lessons by now, and I must say that I am really amazed how good the quality of the lessons really, even though I may point out that I believe some of the lessons are to short to be called a lesson (but very few). There are a lot out there to be learned right away! :)

Also, before I signed up I went over to the song section to take a quick look. At first I thought "well well, a couple of songs in 12 years, thats not too impressive" (that was what I thought :o ), and however I would not sign up just because of the ability to learn a couple of songs. But then I saw the writing in the top of the page, and I where blown away by how quickly all those lessons where created... and in such a great quality! However I really believe that this site would benefit a lot by getting some of THE most elementary guitar-songs, such as canon-rock, sweet child o' mine, cliffs of dover etc (you have smoke on the water though). Also you should make many simple song lessons for the ones that has just bought their first guitar, such as ACDC (again, you do have smoke on the water, great! :D ).... and even though your series with artist studies are great, there are many (important) players not mentioned... But I know you are busy though, and you are doing an awesome job!

Also I found this course: http://www.guitartricks.com/course.php?input=10 anyone knows if this is a third lesson the the core learning system? This course has really a lot of what I need, and I would love to know if there where any courses like this too.

Anyhow, I'm off to practice some more lessons! :)

Hey Sweep in sleep,
I actually copied this answer from another post with a similar question. The following was Neal Walter's response, and I thought this may explain how the songs are selected. The question was about a specific song, and here is Neal's answer.

Hi,

Guitar Tricks will teach you the skills to learn any song on your own. Since we make the song lessons from an approved list we aren't able to take song requests.

I hope we get some more of your favorites, as were all working very hard to get more songs done. The site has many other lessons to teach techniques used to play many songs. You may hear things that sound familiar in many of these lessons, and say to yourself so that's how they're playing that.

One other thing, even the most simple lesson could be applied to hundreds of songs. I know you want to learn songs too, but don't forget about the way that the songs are played. You can use these methods in other songs too, all you have to do is listen for the similarities.

I hope this helps, and let us know how you're doing.

Hi, I know you are doing a great job on the song-lessons, and I know very well they are hard to produce. As far as I'm concerned, I really don't care too much about the song lessons (but I learn them if I like the song though). And as you said, I'm mainly into this site because of the ability to learn all the techniques too be able to play songs and likewise (I mainly use guitar-pro for my song-needs...). Anyway, I just thought it would draw a LOT of people if you put out the more popular songs. Because of the advertisement mainly says "we are to learn you this and that song" (if people, and they do a lot, misunderstand), people often turn right over to the song-section and skip all the valuable stuff this site contains, which I think is a shame. If you got some popular songs and artists covered, I believe many more will take the time too look around. -- Just a thought.

As I said, I personally don't care too much for the song-lessons (even though they are great), but try too focus on all the other great stuff. :)

Edit-- I also saw the original thread which you quoted from. This is also one of my points, they misunderstood the main idea of this site and got a bad experience. Here I don't think the problem was too few famous songs, but maybe a bit un-precise advertising (even though many people also see the main concept of the site.)

Good on you Sweep in sleep.

The 60's-90's was such a great time in music and formed the bedrock. It's no wonder so many go back to it for inspiration.

Good point when you say the site needs more 'simple' stuff for beginner rockers. I know it's out there on youtube already but this site maybe should provide the authoritative version which would attract accolades and members.

I can't answer this but surely someone from GT will be able to - the indexing of this site can be a bit confusing.

Good luck with your playing - Maybe try listening to "Planet Rock" if you want to hear the old classic stuff. Rock on!!

Hi Guitar Player!

Yeah, I believe this site could use some more (and famous) easy song lessons. The first songs I would look for when I see song-lessons is such as cannon rock, for the love of god, maybe some Dream Theater (sadly, very few, or none, techs these kinds of lessons). I would imagine that many beginners would look for the same. And since the core learning system are superb for every aspiring guitarist, I believe this could benefit the site. :)

Also, thank you for the band-recommendation! I have never heard of the band before, but will look right into it! :)

//Rock on//

Ps. Have you ever heard of Edguy? It's a rather new band, and their newest albums are great, especially the latest one! (I believe it's hard rock though, but still they are great :) )
