chords or fingerpick

Hello
Basic question..guitar music will have the notes on the music and chords above the staff...right.How do you know if its chords to fingerpick with or just chords to accompany the melody.

I think this purely personal choice.

You can either listen to the original recording and try to match that or you can make your own interpretation.

More often than not it is going to be strumming. When you listen to the recording, most of the time you will be able to tell the difference. If you can't then that's also good since that could mean that you are open to do either one if you wish.

personal choice...i like to do a mixture or if im recording i do both the notes and chords
