I've always loved his playing style but there is very little info on him out there. Can anybody give me the low down on how he plays? How he gets that amazing tone (like on "crazy mama"), or direct me to a good instructional book on JJ Cale?

Thanks!! :)

The chords to this song include C, Bb, Ab, G

To begin with play a C bar chord on the 8th fret ( F shape )

Then leave the bar on the 8th and lift the rest of your fingers - play the chord with 1 finger bar and then replace your fingers and play C bar chord again

Then slide the chord shape down two frets to the sixth fret where it becomes Bb and play the chord ( still F shape )

Play this whole sequence four times

Then play C bar chord -Bb bar chord on the 6th -Ab bar chord on the 4 th and G bar chord on the 3rd ( all F shape ) and that's it

I use to jam along to this track as a teenager and you can get away with improvising E minor pentataonic scale over the whole song

You know you can edit your own posts right? Don't have to post 4 different times in a row.

Of course he wrote a song about my post! How'd he do that so quickly? ;)

He keeps his technique very close to the vest, and his tone. Oh well

Eric recorded two JJ tunes- After Midnight and Cocaine.(Play Cocaine in E) all barre chords.

JJ was at Claptons Guitar festival in Dallas in 2006. Video is available.

Eric and JJ made and album about 3 yrs ago called Escondido. You can hear the different styles and tones on the solos. JJ has a tighter thinner distortion than Eric. His style is pretty simple blues based stuff.

Any questions?
