Volume Pot Treble Bleed Mod

This is going to be useful for me. My problem is, my pedals push my solid state amp, even when my amps volume is at 0. As you know, if you turn down your volume on your guitar, it reduces high frequencies...

Going to take the information in this article and build a box that sits between my pedals and my amp.

Why not just mod your guitar(s)?

Thought about it. But, I really like the idea of just one box. I may expand it to the guitars. I may be better to do it that way anyway. Less in the FX chain.

So, I went to the local electronics store after work, picked up the parts I needed soldered up my little volume box, plugged it in. Works perfect.


...NOTE...
This is not an attenuator. This is just a volume box with a circuit design such that when you turn the volume down on it, the high frequencies don't get cut out by the pot...

Congrats! I'd considered doing the internal mod on "Denny", but decided to keep it simple at the time.

I hear ya, which is why I decided to build a box unit instead, this way I don't have to worry about altering my guitars. Especially considering there are times that I want to roll back on the volume to reduce some of the gain anyway.

That way gives you the best of both worlds. I never thought of that, only that it was adding to the chain. (I'm getting to be a purist lol)

Did you put a bypass on it?

No, I didn't bother making it fancy, there really was no need. Here was my problem.

Boss DS-1 : Turning it down cut lots of high frequencies.
Ibanez TS9 : Couldn't turn it down enough so that it could be used and not bother the family, just a loud pedal.
Boss MT-2 : Really is not affected by turning down the volume on this.

The whole reason behind wanting this is so that I could keep my volume knobs at high levels on my distortion pedals without loosing tone. If I'm jamming with some friends or what ever, I won't even use this. It's strictly for using when I still want a good tone but at very low volumes.

Again, maybe I just use my sh*t wrong. I set my OD or Distortion peds just a little higher than playing clean would be. If I come off any clean sections, it's usually into some OD lead, so I want it to stand out a bit.

If I cranked the output on my box, it would blow the friggen' doors off when I switched it on after some mellow clean section. :eek:
