3. you're able to play some songs people like
but in my opinion; let others do the judging, don't to it for them

I tend to be self deprecating and say 'meh, I'm trying to learn a bit'. If they think I'm awesome, then so much the better. ;)

The key is to not worry about what other people think very early on. The more the cloud of worry and doubt hovers over you the harder it is to abandon it. Remember that if you never stop playing, you never stop learning. That being said, saying both things is more than adequate. Got get em! :cool:

I think I know where you're coming from here.
When I say I play guitar I feel that I should be able to back it up by delivering a searing riff that wows the “audience” at the very least. Or telling them how many bands I've been in :cool: Anything else is a big letdown surely!
In reality I'm happy to say I enjoy playing and improving and that one day I might be able to hold my head and say proudly "I play guitar" :D and in my heart I don't feel like I'm faking it!
