But not as zany. :p

As soon as I read your post I thought of the Dave-sicle. Thanks for the memory refresher! :)

Ha! I was the hugest Dave fan, and never knew the Davesicle existed. ...Well, I guess I wasn't that huge a fan after all.

The popsicle guitar is cool. I was trying to see how he built the neck, but the page wouldn't load for me. :(
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

It's just one more example of the over-the-top zaniness of Classic VH. Have you ever noticed how much Dave is essentially a larger than life comic, song-and-dance vaudeville performer? A lot more so than "rock star".

Some of the songs, for example on WACF & FW, aren't tunes as much as they are vaudeville routines for acting out on stage. :p

I only ever saw them in concert once. Unfortunately, I was maybe 16 or 17 and I barely remember it. Just this lasting image of the giant VH swinging down from the ceiling...

Oh yeah, DLR loved to be on stage. Can you imagine what it must have been like to have been to have been in Van Halen back in their hay-day?

Surely a lot of partying, etc. But, let's not pretend those guys weren't serious about what they did & how ambitious they were.

You don't get from backyard parties & clubs in CA in 10 years to 6 classic rock albums, touring the world multiple times, packing arenas & burning a zillion calories a performance by being a slacker "rock dude".

And they did all that before any of them turned 30 years old. Love, hate or remain indifferent, DLR & VH achieved a great deal through hard work & uncompromising dedication to a central purpose.

Oh hell yeah, I totally agree. They didn't get where they were by only partying. No doubt about it. I'm just saying, they had a GREAT TIME for many years!
