So I am playing at my friends graduation and I need to learn "Piece of my Heart" by Janis Joplin. Problem is I can't find ANY tabs for BASS which is what I'll be playing. Sure I can play the easy way and just hit root notes, but the perfectionist in me wants to play it like it should be played....correctly.

Any tips?

In the old days, we'd learn from the song. Seriously. Do you have any tempo slowing s/w? That helps a lot.

Oh and

...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

I have Transcribe. It's worked for what I need so far, but is there any better software out there I could check out? I could work the whole song out I guess. Gig is in 20 days and I have more songs to learn so was hopefully looking for a faster way.

Also that tab you linked is the ONLY one that I could find. All the tab site have that same one, but it is incomplete and kind of confusing without knowing the timing. I've been using it to get me an idea of the song structure though.

Do you have the song to listen to? Put it on the stereo, turn down the mids & treble, maybe?

Apparently Guitar Pro is the big thing for what you want. Thinking of getting it myself. Though (as you may have noticed) I'm pretty old school, and prefer to just listen to the song and pick it up from that. There wasn't any internet when I was learning to play. :) But then, I don't have a gig deadline to worry about either.

I have guitar pro, but if there are no tabs writen for it, it isn't really helpful. The only guitar pro tabs out there have everything except the bass of course :p

I used song surgeon and it worked well for me. you can slow down the song and the pitch doesn't change. It's also got an EQ function that will highlight the instrument you want: bass, guitar, vocals, etc.
