hey i was told by various people that i shouldnt avoid alternate picking because it would really cut down on my speed
but like for example im learning bed of razors right now by children of bodom
and on the intro i do it perfectly by normal picking ( just picking down ) but when i do alternate picking i get it really awsome just like 1nc out of 10 tries the others the pick gets like stuck and doesnt wnat keep going well my hand and my left hand just repeats some notes some times and when i play last resort the cool part thing i do it great on normal picking but alternative picking its really hard

is it really worth learning i've been practicing lots of techniques and practice scales and stuff to get used to it

is it worth it?

thnx

You should definetely learn alternate picking. It sped up my playing alot. On the songs that you can play with normal picking try useing alternate picking slowly at first than gradually speed it up. Also, try to find some alternate picking exercises online. Again, do them slowly at first than gradually speed them up.

Alternate picking is as essential as using punctuations in sentences. :p

Alternate picking is a must have in your toolbox as a guitarist. However, there will be times when doing all down strokes is necessary like when are going for that chunky rhythm sound. I have a free ecourse on my website that focuses on various picking techniques if you care to check it out.

All the best.
