I posted my first video in this thread: Put up a video ... looking for input!.

I've uploaded my month 5 video on YouTube. You can find it here: Guitar Progress - Month 5.

This is actually the second month 5 video I made. I did the first one a few days ago with my MacBook Pro. It was awful. I played it okay, but the video was grainy and the audio had a very hollow echo-y sound to it.

This video is in high def and I recorded the guitar with an actual studio mic. I was shocked at the difference it makes. The recording from the camera was almost unbearable compared to it. No post-processing was done on the audio. I recorded into Pro Tools LE and exported it as it was recorded. It almost makes me sound good! :)

Please excuse the mistakes that I made (there were a handful of them) and my silliness. Also, if anything I post here doesn't make sense, excuse that too. I was rear ended yesterday (minor accident, no injuries or even damage), and I'm still having a bit of an issue focusing and concentrating properly. Doctor gave me a clean bill of health, so it will pass.

Thanks for watching and please feel free to give me constructive criticism. I'll accept a "You suck" as long as you give me advice on how to improve.

Awesome. If I'm hearing what you are, I think the "clicks" are the mic picking up the actual pick contact with the string. Must be a pretty good mic. What is it? Possibly you could filter those out, or reposition the mic maybe. Good work!
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Thanks! The microphone is this one:

Audio-Technica AT2020. It's pretty good. My problem is that I have a powerhouse PC (which is extremely noisy) and I had to wait for my AC to kick off.

I'm going to try to work on my singing, although I expect it will be a good long time before any of that gets on YouTube. I mainly got it for the acoustic, with the added bonus being that it can record other things as well, instead of getting an acoustic pickup.

The clicking seems to be off-strum occasionally, so I don't think it's the pick hitting the strings. I thought it might be the pick hitting the pick-guard, but I've never noticed it doing that. It's possible there was something else in the room making noise, as the mic is very sensitive. Maybe my chair creaking or something.

I am very impressed and really applaud you with your courage. You are allowing the whole world to watch you progress on the instrument and watch both your highs and lows on the journey to learning guitar. That takes a lot of guts and you very much are guiding everyone along every step. Great job!

Great to see you progressing so well. These videos are also very entertaining, as I feel it is almost like a Guitar Tricks reality show. Now that's an idea!

Thanks Douglas! When I first started playing, I searched for similar experiments and couldn't find anyone who did more than two or three videos, so I eventually decided to do it myself.

I think a lot of people get discouraged because they want to pick the guitar up and be an expert in a week. I have every intention on becoming a great player, but I've realized it's going to take a long time. I figured once I get there, my videos might prove inspirational (and maybe as a reality check) for new guitarists. Regardless, I'm having fun doing it.

Guitar Tricks reality show... that is an idea! You should get Neal to visit various GT users and have a "Day in the life of " series. :D

That is very cool. Seems you have a natural ability to strum that thang. If you've only been playing for 5 months, you have a nice flow to your playing. Nice.

Dude, I'm a little over 5 months in and I can say that you're doing better than me. If I were doing that good I'd be pleased.

Thanks guys again for the comments!

Kingkay, I linked to the microphone earlier in this thread, so check that out. The camera is a Sony HD digital camera with a 40 GB hard drive. I don't have it close by, so I can't check the model number. It's a few years old now.

Great progress, bro. I'm on day 4 and I'll be happy if I can play that well after a year.
Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.
