I would reiterate what the others have said about the mechanical nature of the shred stuff.
I think more to the point is not to just move around the scales but to structure something with the skill. If you listen to Steve Vai, while he can definitely shred, he also structures his stuff in to melodies, patterns and themes.
If you don't think in those terms, you will get the reaction here: 'It's nice but...'
Listen to Steve Stevens, Vai, Eric Johnson or most any instrumentalist shredder that's been around for a while, you'll notice that they build themes in to the playing.
