I have a similar habit, I do not put my pinky on the body I kind of hook the high E string with it. It does not cause me any trouble playing and helps me stay oriented with where I am picking without having to look so I see no reason to stop doing it.

I have been studying some of the great blues guitarists and they ALL have little things like that, that they do. Most of it comes from having little to no knowledge at all of actual "proper" mechanics or music theory. None the less they are still some of the greatest players this world has ever known.

I think that is one of the beautiful things about the guitar. While the world's musically educated have determined what is to be considered "proper", there is nothing stopping you from doing it your own way and being wonderful! An example would be Albert King, a left handed guitar player who played a right handed instrument by flipping it upside down. By doing this and fretting with his right hand the man was able to do some crazy bends!

To sum all of this up, if it doesn't cause you a problem then don't worry about it.
God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”
