Do you guys have any tips on writing good songs? I have been a giutar player for a while and I wanted to try my hand at writing songs.
thanks

i write a lot of my own stuff, tho i'm by no means good i tend to follow the bassic forms, intro verse chorus verse chorus solo verse chorus chorus

something like that sometimes mix those around a bit, someties add a bridge or break

http://deadlynumber7.bandcamp.com/ heres a couple my older songs.

facebreaker has a different layout, its just 3 vocal hooks repeated over an over.

drinkenstein and younger are more standard

Don't try to write the coolest song ever. If your goal is to make the coolest song, all your songs will sound stale and like other peoples stuff.

People say write from the heart, which is true.

I think recently, what writing I have done has been to think in terms of orchestration. Not like an actual orchestra but in terms of all the instruments fitting together. I think less about guitar. Guitar is prominent but I think once I took the focus off the riff, the riffs got better because I was trying fit it a need ot a groove and not trying to make the most awesomist riff.

Listen to Led Zep. People call Page a riff-meister and he was. However, he was orchestrating parts and that made all these little riff he had come together.

My thoughts...
