I would love to see more stuff in the Americana and Country genre (Steve Earle, John Hiatt, Townes VanZant, Richard Buckner, Emmy Lou Harris, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Allison Moore, Allison Krause and solid country artists like Jamey Johnson, Keith Whitley, etc.
New and looking for more country/folk/Americana songs
Hi to the Forum members, I'm new to GT, can't wait to spend lots of time with all the great learning material. That said, I think I over estimated just how many songs and genres would be available as lessons. I understand the licensing issue that is required for GT to teach the lessons (songs). Do Forum members ever reach out with support lessons or tips for one another? Specifcally, I am looking for help trying to get the basics down for Steve Earle's version of "My Old Friend The Blues".

Hi cwradio.
Welcome to GT.
While you're waiting for forum users to respond, you might run through the Instructor bio's and pick one of the country instructor. There are at least 9 instructor that have COUNTRY listed..and one may possibly an exact match.. Some instructor also have links in YOUTUBE. It wouldn't hurt to surf there.
List what basics your having problems with..
Even a forum user from a different genre maybe be able to help if you are a little more specific with your problem.
You may also find what you need in fundamentals 1&2
the membership is so diverse that someone that is farmilar with the artists and song help you want may not be in the forum for a while and miss your post.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Temporarily not a full access member
good Luck and keep pickin'

Could not agree more; country and folk seem to be on the low end as far as song availability goes. Hope that changes. Would like to see some more 'oldies' in there, too, for us 'over 60' fellas. I am new, also, to GT, and am
looking forward to the learning process. Good Luck; keep in touch :)

I just joined up with GT this month. I, too, am a big fan of Americana music and it would be great if there were a few songs in this genre on here.
I'm currently working through Lisa McCormick's series on fingerpicking, which is a new skill for me. What I am doing is applying the skills thaat she has taught in the first lesson to some Americana songs. Starting with "The Messenger" by Ray Wylie Hubbard. The picking pattern she teaches in the first lesson seems to go well with the song, and all of the chords in it are covered in the lesson.
