I was just given a MG50DFX. The guy who had it said he was playing through it, then the volume went out on it. Said it's about 8 months old. I know this guy and know he would be kind to his equipment.

What I've noticed since I've had it here at home is that, I have to crank it all the way up, and even then the volumes are very low. I can tell there is power beind it, you can hear the hiss grow louder, but the actual volume of the guitar is quit low.

This is happening on both clean and dirty channels.

When I pluged my Line6 PODx3 in the return on the effects loop, then I got volume.

So, having said that, I'm led to believe it's something prior to the effects loop, but not positive.

Also tried plugging in my pedals. I have a distortion, eq, delay and chorus. Plugged that into the return on the effects. That too will drive the amp. Something I noticed though is that I had to have the master volume control cranked all the way up or I'd suffer from the same issue without running anything into the FX return.

I'm really hoping that I can get this thing up and running for cheap.

Fixed it. Got some help from some guys on an amp forum. They helped me trace the issue out. Walked me through taking various meter readings and what not. Any turned out to be a bad solder joint on the input plug. My guess that the plug got yanked on too many times.

Anyway. Not a bad FREE amp.

That's great. I am thinking if not for a bad solder joint you would not have got this amp for free. Bet he'll be a little pissed inside when you let him know.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.
