(I'm a reformed classical trumpet player, so am hoping there is such a thing as the guitar equivalent of a "mute", but cannot find it.)

when you say quiet, do you mean no sound or low sound. Do you just want to practice freting and fingering? Might I suggest a strip of tape around all the strings down by the bridge,. No sound or a slight "thunk" but you can finger, fret, chord form and switch practice as well as practice picking. I do this when i dont want to disturb anyone with late night practicing
