Chris, while I imagine that you'd prefer a solution that's free, if you can afford it there are "silent guitars" that I think would be great for traveling. I have no personal experience with them but saw a guy playing one in an airport once and it looked really cool. He pulled it out of its gig bag, snapped it together, plugged in some headphones and drifted off into his own little world. :)
