The F chord is a difficult chord to get right. There have been many folks who have difficulties with it who are starting out. Keep at it. :)

Not to worry, there is a lot of music to be played with starter chords.

Hey Kelly...

No doubt about it, learning chords is difficult. Starting out feels foreign, you feel like you're bending your fingers into pretzel shapes... Stay positive. Set realistic goals. Nobody is a guitar stud over night. :)

Hey Kelly. I am also a newbie. I don't seem to have a lot of dexterity in my fingers.

At the risk of being chastised by the others and creating "bad habits" for you, here is how I dealt with the f chord.

Instead of using the tip of my index finger to cover E & B string, I extend my index finger almost like a bar chord and cover them with the fat part of the third joint.

So far this seems to work well. As a new player I wonder if I might run into problems later. So far so good.

Good luck.

Actually, I don't see that as a bad habbit at all. Not that I'm any kind of an authority figure on the subject. :D

winegrower i dont really see a problem with playing an F that way i started out playing it that way now i can easily play it the way its written.

a chord that might just help is CM7 to make CM7 a F is to move your middle finger up one string you pinky down one and drop the barre on the top two strings.
They say the END is near, but I'm Tired of waiting.
