Hi. I have been trying and trying to properly strum a A-shaped major chords and find it rather difficult. Does anyone have tricks for me!?

For example, C Major on 3rd fret 5th string requires 2nd-3rd-4th string on the 5th fret. How do you place your hand!? I manage to do it with three seperate fingers but I see teachers with only one or two...How can you successfully do that WITHOUT touching the 1rst string!? If I place 3 fingers, eventually it won't work on higher frets....

This site is very challenging but also very rewarding! Thanks guitartricks!

Simon.

I posted a similar thread a while back. I have quite thick fingers and found using my 1st 2nd and ring finger was causing me problems. I started using my 2nd ring and pinky and found it quite easy. With practise i can now barre my 2nd finger over the strings and avoid the top E string.

Good luck

I just depress the D string with 1st finger and both the G and B strings with 2nd finger. This may not suit everyone, but it works for me as I have a rather wide 2nd finger.

Here is a link to a lesson I did on Major Triad shapes. These are not the great big shapes that you were looking for, but they do give you a way to play these chords in a much easier way. Take a look at this whole tutorial as this can shine a light on how to play some of these shapes that will be fairly rewarding quickly.

Here is the one on A major shapes. Let me know what you think!

Yes, you do have to be logged in. Not being able to means that you either aren't, or you aren't a GT subscriber. Try logging in and the link should work fine.

Happy New Year!
