Unfortunately, the guitar world has always been dominated by the right handed. While there are many guitarists that play left handed, the vast majority of lefties play right handed instruments. I have met many, many left handed players that play right handed guitars. This is due in part to the vast majority of instruments being right handed, but to me there seems to be another advantage. While both of your hands on the instrument are doing new things, the hand that is fretting, playing chords, etc. is the one doing the most work. If you are left handed, that hand is the most developed and therefore as a lefty you have a bit of an advantage on a right handed instrument. Use this to your advantage as much as you can. Truth to be told, either way you start out and whatever type of guitar you choose, you are starting something new and it will require an equal amount of practice either way. I truly feel you will settle into whatever is most comfortable over time. So, I would say try playing a right handed instrument at first and if a left handed feels better; go with that. You will work through the obstacles and develop into a great player whatever avenue you choose.

Keep us posted on what you decide!
