Hello everyone, im pretty exited because i have agreed with myself to get my first Marshall Half Stack, but i don't know which one to get.

As im a big fan of Slash's tone i would like to get something in that area?

Any recommendations on that? :)

Thanks in advance

I dont have a whole lot or experience behind a half or full stack but I have played thru a JTM45 w/ 1960TV half stack and was blown away to say the least. You get a real bawlsy howl like Angus and banshy screaming highs of the likes or Slash and such.

Id just recommend going to your local music store and plug in to a bunch and find one you like. If you're planning to spend that kind of cash, you'd want to make sure you're really getting what you want as far as tone and features.

Hope that helps! Oh, and buy your neiborhood some earplugs for Christmas cause if you're gonna use this at home.... you get the idea ;)

Marshall 1987XL (Head) $1849.99 USD
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/1987XL/
Marshall Vintage Reissues Sound Exactly Like the Original!
Though the 50 Watt 1987XL shares the same front and rear panel features as its big brother, the 1959 SLP, it does have its own distinct personality. Sweet warm singing sounds are packed into every nook and cranny of this great tone machine.

Marshall 1987XL Features:
Part of the Marshall Vintage collection
Mix two channels together at once for a totally unique sound
New series effects loop feature
Vintage Marshall through and through

Marshall Vintage Series
The main characteristic that these amps share is their simplicity of operation and superb natural valve tone. Achieving the beautifully organic and vibrant overdrive which is their trademark, can only be done in one way - crank 'em up! The result is pure, majestic tone uncluttered by unnecessary circuitry. With solos this produces a big, round, warm, sustain, full of classic character. With chord work you get a bark and percussive attack with a natural sounding break up, which allows each note to ring out in a glorious musical crunch.

Unique Sounds
With the Marshall 1987XL, you can mix the two channels together by connecting a short, screened patch lead between the second input of Channel 1 and the first input of Channel 2. If you then plug your guitar into the first input of Channel 1, you can mix the different tonal characters of each channel for greater flexibility!

Uncompromised Tone - Even Through the Effects Loop
The Series Effects Loop features a true bypass switch that takes the loop completely out of the circuit, thus ensuring the original tone isn't compromised. The Level Switch allows you match the loop to either stompboxes or rack units.

Vintage Marshall Appointments
As is the case with the 1959SLP, the 1987X has fittings and hardware as true to the originals as humanly possible, thus ensuring that authentic Marshall 'Vintage' look.

Marshall 1987XL Features:
Output: 50-Watt
Preamp Valves: 3 x ECC83
Power Amp Valves: 2 x EL34
3-band EQ
Presence
Dimensions: 26" x 10.2" x 8"
Weight: 34lb

JeffS65, If you don't work for Marshall you should. I'm sure they would love a salesman with as much product knowledge as you. I can tell you really love and are serious about your equipment. It's good to have someone on the site you can go to for answers on this subject.

I would recommend trying other models out as well before simply going with a Slash custom stack. I know you are a fan, but make sure that the sound is right for you and not just an emulation of a player you like. You may find that your sound will change within the next few years, and you want an amp that will reflect that throughout your years of playing. If that amp sounds the best, then roll with it. However, don't just go with it because it is a Slash custom amp; go with it because it speaks to YOU.
