Anyone know why there aren't any 12 string hybrids on the market yet? I've liked most of the hybrids I've test-played at music stores. It's nice to have piezo-acoustic tones when you need, and electric tones when you need them with a flick of a switch, and it's a real bonus to be able to blend acoustic and electric tones.

But I can't find an acoustic 12 string. I think it would be great to be able to shift between a Randy Sparks/Melissa Ethridge 12 string acoustic strummy sound and a Beatles/Byrds/Petty Ric sound. For fun, I once put a Samick single-coil soundhole pickup on my piezo equipped Alvarez 12. I ran each output to a different channel of my amp so they'd come out the same speaker. The result was interesting, but too much of a kludge to actually use for real.

I think that the first guitar maker who can come up with a 12 string hybrid that can go from sounding similar to Melissa Ethridge's Ovation to Tom Petty's Rickenbacker will have a great selling guitar on their hand.
