I just learned something about effects. It's nuts!

I have read every article, and watched every video that I could find in my quest for the Eric Johnson tone. I appreciate you guys putting up with my videos and questions. This will be the last video that I ask you to watch! I have beat this subject to death, but I didn't want to stop until I was satisfied.

I did learn one important thing. At first, I laughed when people said that Eric Johnson is very picky about batteries that go into his effects, and that he liked to use batteries that are almost dead. I thought that it sounded absolutely crazy. Well, it might just be the answer! Batteries that are almost dead have given me the best or most close Eric Johnson tone to date. It is pretty freaky, but so far it is works.

I really enjoy playing guitar with this type of tone. To me, having this type of sound makes me not want to put the guitar down. It has a serious attack or bite to it, a fuzzy like top end sound, and a Chello like bottom end. I think this is where the almost dead batteries come into play.

One of my friends built me a power supply to simulate almost dead 9 volt batteries. It works like a charm. It works great for other effects pedals as well. It is weird stuff, but does something to the circuits.

Here is a new video. Please let me know what you think!

I like it. I agree with you about the Cello like bottom end. I would love to sound half as good as you do (one of these days).

It's funny that something like batteries at the bring of death can give you such a distinct sound.

I bet the neighbors love you.

Thanks!

That's the funny part!

I am playing at room volume on the video, not much louder than a loud TV. I could actually talk on the phone and play. It is really hard to get good tone at such low volume. When I crank it up, after the wife is gone, it really comes to life. I don't play my amps loud in the house because the sound bounces all over the place and sounds really muddy. Some day, I am going to build a jam room in my back yard, when I can afford it.

Nice work! Glad to hear someone has put this rumor to the test and proven it correct. I dig!
