Do you like your music fast & heavy? I like all kinds of music but as a guitarist I don't think you can beat a good riff can you? One's that stand the hairs up on your neck and just roll off the fretboard!

I'd like to start a poll which I'll add to as people put forward their favorite. I'm going to set the ball rolling with possibly my top 2, but I'm sure someone will change my mind. Once I have 10 then let the voting begin! Here we go:

Painkiller - Judas Priest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAagedeKdcQ
Riff Raff - ACDC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uXu067MTqI

What are your killer riffs?

I don't think any riff can top the opening of Highway to Hell:

Montrose - Rock Candy:

...and for the ultimate 'drilled in to your head' riff, Judas Preist - Livin' After Midnight:

Great Great songs Jeff. I'm happy to consider them for the poll however...I'm looking for riffs (maybe I wasn't clear), and in that I mean the sort single string type of thing as opposed to a chord sequence. eg Enter Sandman-Metallica.

Many thanks for your suggestions but see if you can come up with some others. Megadeth have some good ones too.

Rock Candy is a nice riff.

Hey all,
One of my faves has always been the riff on "Life in the fast lane" by the Eagles.

I'm also a big fan of AC/DC, "Have a drink on me" was cool, and also "Hells bells".

Metallica, and Megadeth have some cool riffs too, there's no way I could narrow it down to one. It should be interesting to see the results of this poll, and what else gets mentioned here.

Yes will be very interesting. Some really cool ones being mentioned. Life in the fast lane. What a riff that is! , and I was thinking that it was just going to be 'metal head' riffs. That would definitely qualify.

Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin

and then every other riff by Led Zep - Jimmy made it almost impossible for the rest of us to come up with a great guitar riff. He used them all up...

If it's single string riffage ye want, I present Iron Maiden 'The Trooper':

I don't quite think either of those make the top 10. Good songs though. However you have reminded of a Rainbow song called Stargazer that had a pretty cool riff.

No, I don't consider someone old unless they crossed the Atlantic in a Zepplin.
Now that's old!
