Mini-strat vs Ibanez Mikro

My daughter has decide that she wants her own. I have told her that mine is available if she wants to play it but she is determined to have her own. She has told everybody who usually buys her B-day presents that she want $$ for this purchase.

To me it seems like a big expense for a 10 yr old. Anybody have any opinions about kids and guitars beyond comparing these two?

I talked to one guitar shop and they wanted to sell me/her a $300 Baby Taylor. Way beyond our price range.
