tips for intermediate player

I am working chords out by ear / feeling

any directions i can go in to work out tips and things to help me write better songs?

I have a teacher who was trying to teach me pentatonic scale today because when I play I do not hit the write notes

I got a bit defensive with him and said i could do this at home when he was trying to help is knowing the pentatonic scale positions going to help?

Take a look at "Scales And Chords Relationships" with Christopher Schlegel
I think the pentatonic scale is used in most rock, country and blues music.
