First, release the Caps Lock on your keyboard. USING CAPITALS IS LIKE SHOUTING!
OK, now. You may be trying to run before you learn to walk. The techniques you developed in learning to play classical guitar will be useful, but there are some new things you must absorb.
Holding the pick. If you try to pinch the pick between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your index finger, you will set up all kinds of problems for yourself. Make a fist with your pick hand. Put your thumb up on top of your fist. Now slowly uncurl your fingers until just the part of your index finger from the tip to the first knuckle is still under your thumb. The pick goes in between your thumb and the side of the finger. This allows you to stroke the strings, by rotating your forearm. Your forearm should be parallel with the strings.
Now then, about this solo. Put it aside for a while. Play some scales, slowly, alternating downstrokes and upstrokes by rotating your forearm. The edge of the pick should 'shave' across each string. Don't hurry. Use the metronome to keep your pace steady. Very gradually increase your speed, a little bit each session, only if you have mastered the technique at your slow speed.
After 7 years of classical music you should be familiar with the benefits of practicing technique. Proper pick action should soon feel natural, without causing soreness in any joints or muscles.

on the 6th,up on the 5th, down 4th .up 3rd, down 2nd . up 1st. down 2nd . up 3rd,down 4th ,up 5th. and down on the 6th to start over again..hold a chord while yer doin it n
after 3 minutes a day for a week you'll notice improvement.
i do this every day . another thing i do is...( this one is tough to do and hard to describe) i start at the first fret.
playing position so that each finger gets a fret..

Question:
Why do you want to use a pick when playing the electric guitar? I know a buncha players who use their fingers which produces a very unique sound and gives them their very own "note" :)
Jeff beck for example - he´s the best example! You can also play fast with fingers only - and if you are just used to fingerpicking - then continue to fingerpick!

If you are really good at finger picking, why mess with a good thing??? Go with what works for you. And like someone previously said, Jeff Beck is lightning fast without a pick. But if you are determined to work with a pick I have one word that you need to mentally picture in your mind every time you pick up the guitar pick:
RELAX !!!
Not relaxing when you pick is the single biggest reason guitarists have trouble playing with speed with their picking hand. Watch guys like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc. Watch their picking hands. Observe:
What parts of their body are they moving when they are picking? Are they moving their shoulders, elbows, wrists, or are they moving a combination of those body parts?
Are they using alternating down, up, down, up strokes or are they using one of the many economy picking techniques that are out there?
Are their hands free floating or are their picking hands resting against the bridge when they play?
There are a couple of video cassettes out there which demonstrate some of the various economy picking techniques. Jimmy Bruno and Frankie Gambale are two names that come to mind who have put out videos on the subject.
