im having real trouble with my finger not bending enough to avoid muting the bottom string. It feels like i have to push very hard with my 2 barring fingers to get a clean sound compared to all other bar chords.

Could anyone give advice as hat i might be doing wrong

ive picked everything else up really quickly and don't want to move on until i have this nailed.

Do just the bar first and make sure you get a clean sound. Then add a finger one by one to see where it starts to mute on the bar. It can help you see what finger placement is causing a shift on your bar finger which is leading to a muted string.

By bottom string I assume you mean the high E string (thinnest string). If this is the case then I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just mute the string so it doesn't buzz and allow only the middle 4 strings to sound. This is pretty common. Many people are not lucky enough to have a finger joint that can bend far enough back to let that high E string ring cleanly while playing the A shape bar chord with 2 fingers. I've been playing for 20 years and still can't get the high E to ring clean while playing a 2 finger A shape bar chord. The chord will still sound fine as long as the high E string is muted and doesn't buzz.

thanks,

i can do it with my little finger no problem, but will this come to bite me using my pinky if i have to play an a shape with two fingers, plus add my pinky to another string when things get more complex.

ive read up and it appears a lot of people quite experienced have trouble so i will get it good, then move on, thanks.

EDIT: i just picked my guitar up to test something and ...er.... it just rang a 2 fingered barre beautifully...must remmeber must remember
