The pedal can be a little noisy if it's extremely overdriven and balanced near full potential, but manageable. Even without other means of gain will allow for a nice dirty sound. I do find myself hiding behind the pedal a little, really evens out the rough runs. Helps with tremolo picking as well, i actually think i have improved due to the pedal's "comfort" it provides. Seven thumbs up.
Maxon OD-808

Best buy to date. I highly suggest this pedal even if ridiculous amounts of gain aren't necessary. I use it in tandem with an EHX metal muff w/ top boost through a schecter ATX blackjack c-1. Extremely versatile setup, but results in hours of tweaking because "that sounds EVEN better!" I paid about 125.00 for it and worth every penny.

I think Maxon used to make all the Ibanez pedals including the Tube Screamers. Now they build a better pedal than Ibanez and sell it for cheaper.
