OK, so I mainly want to play jazz guitar and a bit of the singer songwriter type stuff. However, what are the types of things every guitarist should know no matter what style they play? What scales, chords etc?
What should every good guitarist know?

Take care of your digits. I ran a drill bit through my index finger last night on my fretting hand. Ouch and sore.

Learn rhythmn. Staying in time with everyone else is important, no matter what you're playing.
