A little more bawls
My set up is: Ibanez Artcore as73, Traynor Dyna-gain 30w. I want to put more of a southern rock edge into my sound. The amp can be fiddled with for something close but not quite, hate amp fiddling anyway. I was thinking about a pedal and/or a wa wa. Maybe a pups upgrade, not sure. Going for a Skynard sound with a blues edge.

If you can play the amp loud enough to get close to the distortion you want, you may just need a boost pedal to push it over the top. I don't like having a lot of pedals to mess with, but I've found the Bad Monkey to be a good, versatile option. The distortion can be dialed down, leaving a faily clean boost to allow the amp to sing for you. And there's lots of grind available when you want it.
A wah pedal is basically an adjustable tone control. A good thing to have, but it won't make any distortion for you.

As the amp is a solid state I was concerned as to how well the Bad Monkey will perform. I am really thinking that it may get me where I want to go though. I may just have to buy and try.

I just purchased a Tech 21 British character pedal and it has an awesome Marshally tone. You may also want to change your pickups to SD 59's, burstbuckers or pearly gates......boost your mids on your amp as well...........hope that helps

How about....because of the "lower end" nature of the Ibanez guitar, I love the guitar but think the pick ups may not be everything they could be. I don't want to over do it but maybe a set of SD pro's would put a PAF sound in and push the front of the amp harder and then add a quality pedal for some smooth overdrive for that "oomph"?
