I'm 51, and gigged new years eve for the 1st time in 6 years..Now i'm hooked again and in a classic rock band. I'm thinking about a new amp. One where I don't have to carry extra effects, etc. with me. What about these amps with modeling? do they do what they advertise? I'd like to stay in the $500.00 or so range, but need enuf power to play small clubs, unmiked. Any imput would be great!

Crate has a series of three amps with modelling & effects that differ in power. Line6 makes Flextone and Spider amps, the latter are a bit cheaper and more simple. I've also tried a great Rocktron combo with all that stuff, and it sounded really great. Cheap, too. All of these got good critics in most of the magazines I've read.
Impendance is fruitfull
while the buttons are circled.

I 2nd the rocktron recomendation i've got a rocktron 50 (200.00 bucks at musicians exchange) with 50 watts power built in chorus dirty channel etc. Great amp it supposedly can drive a cabinet with 4 12's and really scream. the chorus is stereo and the amp has left and right speaker outs. check it out they have a website with a dealer directory.

I seriously recommend any kind of amp from Line 6, the spiders are great and more affordable than the flextones, but the flextones are even more versatile than the spiders, with more effects and cab choices. You also might want to look into a POD if you already have a loud enough amp. These amps do everything they say they do and more.
