12 string tips
I have a question mixed in this post, well actually what it is is what is some good songs to play on a 12 string??? I am a relatively new player (about 1 year) and I have a 12 string that sounds awesome but the only song that I have played that sounds good so far is Blackbird by the Beatles. I have been working on my finger picking and this song just sounds cool on my 12. I was taking lessons from a musician but the classes turned into half hour BS sessions and I ask a million questions so it was more my fault than my teachers any way he never gave me any tips on the 12 string. I took me a bit of searching before I found out you play it like a 6 string. Of all the smart, talented people out there if you play the 12 string how bout some tips, links to instructions, or just song suggestions that wouldn't be too hard to play. This does help my 6 string playing because you really have to push on the strings to get right sound.

I actually dont own a 12 string, but I can tell you playing is playing, if you practice 8 hours a day on a lute youll still get better at electric guitar simply because your working those muscles and relatively the same brain areas. now as for songs I know that the intro to stairway is on a 12 string and Hendrix did a 12 string version if hear my train a' comin, though Im sure most acoustic songs could be adapted. anyway best of luck and happy playing!

I am the "utility player" in a country/country-rock band, and play my 12 string (Ovation) on quite a few of the songs we do. Try playing the Eagles "Hotel California". If you can play "Blackbird" this should be a snap. We are in the early stages of doing a modern-country version of "Shenandoah", and the 12 string balances well against the lead player's electric Tele...
