Hey guys,

I just recently found and tried this cool mod for shielding your guitar from EMI/RFI noise. It works very well on Strats, Teles and other guitars with single coil pickups. I also helps any electric guitar filter out noise you may be picking up from other electro-magnetic or radio noise in your house. Which these days is almost everything from fans, TVs, computers, and most other electronics like that.

I tried it on my vintage Strat with over wound Pups and it reduced my hum by a good 60-75%, which now allows me to crank it for better saturation without the hum! You don't need a lot of technical knowledge to do it. Just patience, a steady hand, and closely follow the directions. It is WELL WORTH the few hours it takes! For all the parts you need, (as long as you have the tools) it costs very little.

If you try it feel free to give feedback on how well it worked or maybe any additions, subtractions or variations you come up with that seemed to help. For example, I am an electrician and I have testing equipment to test continuity and resistances. You can buy a continuity tester for pretty cheap. It is really handy for this mod since you can move the probes all over the surface of your shielding to make sure you have a good connection at the seams

Happy playing!

BTW, if you want to go hard core and use copper instead of foil, here are a few links to good places to buy the copper shielding stuff.
