I think you should give it a go. I was self taught picking up things all over the net, but go to the point where my learning wasn't focused so I recently joined GT. The best thing guitartricks has going for it is a ciriculum to follow, as well as the videos are one on one spoken format, so its like you are getting a private lesson. I do think they need to provide more resources to apply the things you are learning, but you can usually find it on the net.

I would recommend if you join to start at the Fundementals(At least listen to them) and figure out where your playing level is - there are also a few things you will pick up along the way.
