I can't do it.

I have a natural rhythm inside of me and I'll always revert to that tempo. It doesn't matter what I'm playing, I'll start off fine and eventually speed up or slow down to that tempo. It's not that bad when I'm playing with others because I can sync up to them, but alone or with a metronome, it's impossible.

I'm talking about eight notes and faster, especially if it's not a smooth rhythm. For example, quater note, two eights, two eights, rest. Should be simple enough, but I end up speeding up the second I get to the eight notes, until I'm playing at double time or something. Help!

I'm practicing with a metronome at varying speeds, but I need all the advice I can get. Thanks.
