Another Newbie

Hi Gang, Just joined the site today. Although I have played for a number of years I started with fundamentals 1 and 2. Thought I might be able to break some bad habits..My name is Terry and I am 70 years old. Due to arthritis in hand and arms i have to make some adjustments to the way I hold some of the chords. I have a hard time holding a full barre so I just barre the first two string and hook my thumb over the top to mute the bass E string. I alm really looking forward to a long and pleasant association with many of you in this forum. and maybe even ,finally learn the proper way to play the guitar.

Hi Terry, welcome to Guitar Tricks, I admire your determination. Hendrix used to use his thumb over the top too, whatever works! There's a really good, supportive crew here, have fun!

Welcome - we are delighted you are joining us. I do the thumb thing all the time too. Did you ever see Richie Havens play? He uses his thumb to hit more that one string at once.
