Notes/notebooks

Hi, I'm not new to guitar. I have actually been playing guitar in a way for a year (all I've been doing is playing chords). Up to now I've been learning by reading books about guitars and I have been printing out chords and tabs off the internet. While I learn I took notes so I could go back to my notes for reference. So far it has worked. It has taught me only to play chords. My question is: should I continue using the notebook method or should I ditch it and just learn and play?
