Hey Man, I got couple recommendations, i mean just to put things in perspective, i would like you to try these guitars.
FIRST ONE:
I just got a Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II, and i highly recommend it. There are number of things which are better in Ultra II that Standard version does not have. This is VERY versatile guitar.
First of all Ultra II has a thing called "NanoMag" which is basically extra pickup. This extra pickup is there for "accostic" simulation, and it does it very well. It works great in combination with other 2 humbuckers, you can get almost fender like tone. Plus it has a stereo output, so where u usually plug the cable in, you have 2 outputs, one for humbuckers+nanomag and one for just the nanomag. So it has stereo output. This was a first reason i tried it out.
Second difference in Ultra II from Standard is that it has a chambered body, so the guitar weights much less. And if you have played a gig standing up with the guitar on your neck, you really learn to appreciate the lesser weight. That's the second reason i tried it out.
Then Ultra II's neck is little bit thinner it seems to me, so its more comfortable to play it. And back of the neck and headstock is satin finished, so since its not glossy seems like my grip feels more comfortable, i don't think any other Les Pauls have satin finished neck. That's the third reason i tried it out.
After that i just traded in my Epiphone LP Standard and got this Ultra II and i don't regret it. By far it is one of the best guitars i even held in my hands. Its really great.
When i got it few days ago i also noticed that all parts of Ultra II are made in Korea instead of China like my Standard LP.
Its a extra 300 dollars, but i think its worth it.
SECOND ONE:
Second guitar that i can recommend to you is a Fender Deluxe Blackout Telecaster, i never actually owned it, but i have played it and its a excellent guitar, here is the link:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Deluxe-Blackout-Telecaster-Electric-Guitar-104801543-i1371267.gcThis is a great Telecaster, one of the better ones from all the telecasters i have tried. It has one extra pickup in the middle which gives it little more versatility.
This guitar is Japanese made, that's what i have been told anyway, and Japanese made guitars are pretty good.
This is the guitar that i wanted to get originally, but Ultra II won me over, plus i play a lot of rock and Les Paul's crunchy tone is just more relevant for me.
So there two guitars i can recommend for you to take a look at. Since i played both and own one of them, i can guarantee that they are worth checking out.
Both of them are in a same price range, Epi LP Ultra II being little more expensive.
Hope it helps. Good luck.
