I just finished guitar fundamentals 1 & 2. I learned a lot from this course but do plan to repeat it just to reinforce areas I was weak in.

My question is this. I just completed a short course on simple riffs by Ron Sayer. The lesson was "Blues Improvisation: Basic Lick 1"

As a wanna be lead guitar player I loved this course. In a matter of 15 minutes I was playing my 1st riff ever. I have searched Guitar Tricks site for similar courses but have come up empty.

Can anyone help direct me to similar courses so I can build up my arsenal of riffs.

Also, I owe a lot of gratitude to those of you who help us newbies as your answers to posts have been invaluble to me.. Many Thanks

I'd say start here:

Chris fleshes out the meat and potatoes of blues licks. If you're in to blues, this is the first step after you finished F1 and F2.

Curious, what words did you use to search?

You mention riffs, but those are typically associated with rhythm playing. And mention wanting to learn lead, and liking Ron's lessons on licks.

Anyway, JeffS65 pointed out one of my tutorials on basic lead licks. Thanks! Try these:

Thanks to all who sent me in the right direction for simple riff practice lessons.
As an added bonus I finally after 2 months of total frustration learned how to hold a barre chord!!
In watching and pausing videos when needed I found the key to making it work and it was so simple I'm almost embarrased to say how I did it.

Anyhoots.. here goes. I always placed my thumb appox midway on the back and could not obtain the correct position to hold a barre chord.
I noticed when Chris held a barre chord with his index finger, his thumb was placed low on the back of the neck. I then moved my thumb to this lower position which then moved my index finger further up and across the fret board. When I hit the strings they all rang out perfectly!!

My hope is that this simple move may be of help to someone else struggling with this same situation.
