Hello,

I bought a Yamaha FG730S a few days ago. Joined Guitartricks on Sunday and am working through the Fundamentals 1 lessons.

Regarding a guitar strap: The applicable lesson has a guitar with two strap buttons. Mine only has one (at the end of the body). Do people add a second strap button to their guitar necks or are their special straps that wrap around the headstock behind the nut?

Is there a brand and/or material that you would recommend (comfortable, durable, not expensive)?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,

Most straps come with a little leather string at one end and this ties around the head of the guitar right where the fretboard ends. Under the strings just behind the nut, that little white plastic strip that the strings rest on by the first fret. You can do this instead of adding another strap button if you want to.
As far as quality goes, I've only bought one strap recently and it was by Harley Davidson, quality leather strap but more of a rock look. Stephy brands look like good quality but I haven't tested one. I would go with what's comfortable for you and take a good look at the stitching, etc. and see if it looks like quality material.

Hi, dogkat1. Here's a 2 page discussion on guitar straps... :)

http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28935&highlight=guitar+strap

My fave strap is a soft leather one that I paid 10 or 15 bucks for. It's about 2 and 1/2 inches wide. I think that thread might also have some discussion on the pros & cons of adding an additional strap pin.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.
