Can you tell me which model pre-amp you have? I've looked on line, and the price ranges (for Behringer mixers/pre-amps) from about $60 US to about $400.

Are you saying you have the pre-amp/mixer before a sound card? I was thinking I may need a pre-amp of some type to boost the signal.

Also, what do you use for effects, if any? Pedals, something software based?
